Ticker/2

Use the right Mouse-Button or Shift-F10 to open a popup menu.

Open Keys Help to view the default keys assignment. The keys F2 - F9 are 
assigned to several sample scripts.





Dropping colors and fonts on the ticker changes the appearance. If a Rexx 
script explicitly adds an item with a specified color, dropping colors will 
have no effect to this item.

Open a REXX command file or a ticker schedule file.



═══ 1.1.1. Start a REXX command file ═══

You can modify your ticker using REXX command files. The directory 'scripts' 
contains several examples. 

- Show any text (i.e. actual time, quotes): time.cmd and quotes.cmd

- Show your 'network service messages': netlog.cmd

- Playing sound: tsound.cmd

- Reading files: sfsample.cmd

- Show some commercials: commerce.cmd


Some more ideas are:

Accessing information from the Internet 

- Continuously display your favorite stock quotes 

- Reading the latest news 

- Display the results of a search engine 

Accessing other networks 

- Display information from teletext, btx, compuserve 

- Implementing your own corporate messaging system

═══ 1.1.2. Schedule file ═══

The ticker can be configured using a scheduler file in which you can instruct 
the ticker to execute REXX command files periodically or when you hit a 
function key (F2 to F9).

The format of a scheduler file is as follows:

<script> <time> <key>

where 

<script>   is the name of the REXX command file 

<time>     is the timeperiod in seconds. A period of 0 means 'no periodical execution'

<key>      is the activation key. Valid keys are F2 through F9. Leave the entry 
           empty if you need no key assignment.


Example for a scheduler file:

#show time and update it every 30 seconds
scripts\time.cmd 30

#show a quote every 10 Minutes or at F3 key
scripts\quote.cmd 600 F3

#show commercials when pressing F4
scripts\commerce.cmd 0 F4


If you have a standard scheduler file name it 'ticker.scd' and place it in the 
directory where the ticker.exe is. This file will be executed at Ticker/2 startup.

When you open a new scheduler file, the previously loaded scheduler entries 
will be removed.


═══ 1.2. Settings ═══

Configure Ticker/2




           Display:
           There are two styles available. Wraparound will display the 
           information continuously. Banner waits until the last object of the 
           object sequence has left the screen before showing the first object 
           of the object sequence again.

Exit when  empty:
           Will close the ticker after the last information is expired 

Hide when  idle:
           Hides the ticker when no new information is added to the ticker for 
           a period of 2 minutes.

No         border:
           Removes the border of the ticker.

Always on  top:
           Forces the ticker window to stay on top of all other windows.

This menu item will open the Ticker/2 product information.


═══ 1.4. Show at Top ═══

Selecting this option will move the ticker to the top of the screen.


═══ 1.5. Show at Bottom ═══

Selecting this option will move the ticker to the bottom of the screen.


═══ 1.6. Exit ═══

Selecting this menu item will close the ticker.

The position of the ticker will be saved and the ticker will restart next time 
on this saved position.


═══ 1.7. About ═══

The About window contains product information and the serial number.

If you register your version you receive a key which has to be entered in the 
'Serial number' field. Restart Ticker/2 and if the key is korrect, you have 
full access to all Ticker/2 features.



═══ 1.7.1. Register button ═══

The register button shows the serial number if you are a registered user. 
Otherwise push this button to open the register dialog.

If you have Internet access and the Webbrowser from the Internet access kit is 
installed correctly, the button 'Our WW page ...' will connect you to our 
homepage. 

The homepage contains the latest information of our products. You will find 
links to ftp servers from where you can download the newest version of Ticker/2.


═══ 1.8. Register ═══

Registration 


To register please fill out the registration form 'register.txt', located in 
the direcory where you installed Ticker/2.

The registration form contains all information on how to mail the form, pay the 
the registration fee ...

After you registered the software, you will receive your personal key. Enter 
this key in the field 'Serial number'. 

Support via mail and fax is available for this product only if you are a 
registered user!


═══ 2. Keys Help ═══

The Keys F2 to F9 can be associated with Rexx Command Files. 

When Ticker/2 is installed the following associations are made:

F2 Slow ticker speed 

F3 Medium ticker speed 

F4 Fast ticker speed 

F5 Show quotes 

F6 Show net log 

F7 Play sound 

F8 Show commercials 

F9 Show the README file
